Classic Film Club - on June 2 - has come round quickly since last month's was late, so ... Having never screened a Greek film, it was a pleasure to find this minor gem directed by Michael Cacoyannis (1922-2011) and made a few years before his more well-known Zorba the Greek.
It is a portrayal of a once-affluent family suddenly forced to live on borrowed money and is an indictment of the post WWII nouveau riche of Athens. Moreover it is a film that is once more relevant to post-austerity Europe.
