This month’s Classic film is Intermezzo (1939), starring Ingrid Bergman and Leslie Howard. It is a re-make of the Swedish film made only 3 years earlier also with Ingrid Bergman, before she had come to Hollywood - hence the attached poster announces "Introducing Ingrid Bergman" (later posters would piut her name above Howard's).
It was also the penultimate Hollywood movie for Leslie Howard (Gone with the Wind would be released later the same year). Before either film was released, Howard had left Hollywood for Britain to help with the war effort - move that would be financially punishing for him and that would ultimately prove fatal.
In Intermezzo: A Love Story however we have one star at the height of his career and another just beginning her journey to international fame.
